Events
Over the past fifteen years Michael has led hundreds of wildlife events inspiring, educating and engaging thousands of people from Shoreham to Svalbard.
As a school educator he has taught hundreds of children about their local wildlife (and led their costumed parade through the streets of Lewes dressed as an Elvis impersonator with a grass cape adorned with Adonis Blue butterflies).
For six years he organised and delivered ‘The Secret Wildlife Festival’ – an annual 3-day wildlife and camping event which allowed families to immerse themselves in a long weekend of bats, badgers, beetles and BBQ.
His popular wildlife education courses for adults, both in person and online, have given thousands of people an insight into the natural world – helping them take their first steps in identifying butterflies, birds and other wildlife.
He is a skilled wildlife guide sharing his passion and knowledge with groups of people or individuals, leading them on guided walks across heath and downs, through woodlands and over rocky shores. Recently he has worked on willdife cruises helping passengers to identify seabirds, whales and dolphins and guided groups north of the Arctic Circle in Svalbard.

Wildlife Experiences

Selected Past Events
2023 was Michael’s first self-employed year and, boy, was he busy!
In February Michael acted as the compere at the Sussex Biological Recorder’s Seminar then took a month off to go for a walk . During April he no longer had much feeling in his feet but he still managed to lead guided walks and run some team away-day events for corporate groups from London & Brighton. In May there were some early mornings for Dawn Chorus events and late nights for Nightjars and Nightingales. This month also saw the first of Michael’s ’24 Hours in Nature’ immersive team building events at The Secret Campsite.
June and July was all Adonis Blues and hawk-moths at butterfly walks and moth mornings. Michael also co-led a Sussex Safari wildlife holiday for Wildlife Travel and ran wildlife events as part of the Charleston Festival of the Garden. He was all over the South Downs and up on the Ashdown Forest in August…then in September it all went bat crazy. Michael ran bat walks in woodlands and churchyards, parks and gardens all across Sussex. He also ran a series of events for Borde Hill Gardens to help them prepare for a major National Lottery funding bid. At the start of October he had just about got some feeling back into his toes and led some private one-to-one walks- beginner’s birdwatching morning’s which people had bought as birthday gifts. Then in November he headed west to run events for students at the University of Falmouth.
And in between all of that he was undertaking wildlife surveys for clients, writing wildlife articles, hosting quizzes and giving illustrated wildlife talks to local groups in Eastbourne, Rye, Battle, Uckfield, Kingston, Rustington, Hassocks, Winchester, Forest Row, Amberley, West Wittering, Midhurst, East Grinstead, Brighton, Rudgwick and Zoom.
